Dan Goldstein’s decision to join a research company has triggered a search for a new executive planning director at the Playa del Rey, Calif. office of TBWA\Chiat\Day.
Office president Carisa Bianchi is leading the search, which is in its early stages. Until a hire is made, group planning directors at the agency will manage the department, an agency representative said. About 35 planners work at the Omnicom Group shop.
Goldstein, who had been the office’s top planner since 2009 , exited last week. He is now chief strategy officer at DB5, a quantitative research firm that opened three years ago and has offices in San Marino, Calif. and New York. Goldstein will be based in San Marino.
In announcing the hire, DB5 CEO Chris Hubble described Goldstein as a “seasoned advertising strategist” who will add a “unique dimension” to the company.
"We believe that research is in the throes of a revolution," added Goldstein. "Chris' and my ambition is to take research into the 21st century using new techniques and technologies."
Goldstein joined TBWA\C\D in 2007 and was deputy planning director before taking the top role. Earlier in his career, he worked at Goodby, Silverstein & Partners in San Francisco and the London offices of CHI & Partners, St. Luke’s and DDB. His first ad job was as a planner at Bartle Bogle Hegarty in London.
At TBWA\C\D, Goldstein worked closely with Visa, Southwest Airlines and Crate & Barrel, among other marketers.
Other top brands at the Playa del Rey office include Pepsi, Gatorade, Nissan, Infiniti, Adidas and Energizer.
