Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution has renewed sophomore entertainment news strip TMZ for two additional seasons, with confirmed clearances in a hefty 97 percent of the country.
Renewals include the Fox Television Stations and affiliates in the following groups: ACME Television, Barrington Broadcasting, ComCorp, Grant Communications, Gray Television, Hoak Media, Lambert Broadcasting, LIN TV, Max Media, Media General, Meredith, New Age Media, New Vision Television, Newport Television, Nexstar Broadcasting Group, Northwest Broadcasting, Pappas Telecasting, Sinclair Broadcast Group, Smith Media and Tribune Broadcasting.
“From the outset, TMZ was targeted toward an audience that the other entertainment news shows were not serving, a younger (18–49), more gender-balanced group of people interested in a different visual and editorial point of view,” said Ken Werner, WBDTD President. “In its first two years, TMZ has wonderfully delivered on that target. The announcement today that we have two-year deals in virtually the entire country is a great endorsement by our station partners and an indication that TMZ is a franchise stations can count on for years to come.”
Season to date (though Feb. 8, 2009), TMZ ranks third in households among the six syndicated magazines, with a 2.2 rating, according to Nielsen Media Research.
Comparably, that is up by 10 percent from the comparable year-ago period. And TMZ leads the genre among women 18-34 (1.4), men 18-34 (1.1) and men 18-49 (1.2), with growth of as much as 20 percent among men 18-49 from one year earlier.
