Go to the website, click on Ratings Box (the first category), then Last Night’s Results, and Thursday, January 15, 2009. ---------- -Yesterday’s Winners:CSI (CBS) -Yesterday’s Losers (excluding repeats):Kitchen Nightmares (Fox) ---------- -Ratings Breakdown: Of immediate note: Results last night are all estimated due to the approximate 15-minute Presidential address at 8 p.m. With that in mind, CBS stood well above the competition in the overnights, beating second-place ABC by a considerable 77 percent. Third overall was NBC, followed by Fox and the CW. Needless to say, Fox did not air American Idol last night. The Presidential Address performed as follows in the overnights from 8-8:15 p.m.:ABC: 6.0/10CBS: 5.9/10NBC: 5.8/10Fox: 3.2/ 5 A repeat of CSI on CBS dominated following the Presidential Address, with an estimated 10.3/16 in the overnights from 8:15-9:15 p.m. Next were two episodes (repeat and original) of NBC’s My Name is Earl (avg. 4.7/ 8 from 8:15-9 p.m.), followed by two repeat episodes of ABC’s Scrubs (avg. 3.9/ 6 from 8:15-9 p.m.), Fox’s Kitchen Nightmares (3.2/ 5 from 8:15-9 p.m.) and Smallville on the CW (3.0/ 5 from 8-9 p.m.), which benefited opposite the address. Once again, all results from last night are approximate. The departure of William Petersen lifted CBS’ veteran CSI to an above average (and very dominant) 14.1/21 in the overnights from 9:15-10:15 p.m. Comparably, that outdelivered a below-average performance of competing Grey’s Anatomy on ABC (8.0/12 from 9-10 p.m.) by a hefty 72 percent. This could, in fact, be the lowest-rated performance for an original installment of the soapy medical drama ever. Now, of course, we have to wonder how CSI will hold up without William Petersen. Personally, I think it will be just fine. Also in the 9 p.m. hour were just renewed NBC sitcoms The Office (#3: 5.2/ 8) and 30 Rock (#3: 4.3/ 6), which both normally warrant interest among adults 18-49, the second season-finale of Fox’s Kitchen Nightmares (3.0/ 5), and Supernatural on the CW (#5: 2.1/ 3). Am I the only one who just cannot stand loudmouth Chef Gordon Ramsay? Top-rated overnight honors stayed with CBS care of Eleventh Hour at an 8.4/14 from 10:15-11:15. But retention out of lead-in CSI was just 60 percent. Chances are solid CBS will utilize the Thursday 10 p.m. hour for something else next season. Coming up in April: Agatha Christie-like mystery Harper’s Island. Second in the 10 p.m. hour was ABC’s recently relocated Private Practice (5.9/10), followed by NBC’s soon-to-conclude ER (5.0/ 9), which will officially depart on April 2. Comparably, that was up by 16 percent and eight percent, respectively, over the year ago week. -Morning Newsmagazine Ratings Update:Also based on the week of Jan. 5, NBC’s The Today Show continues to lead the morning news pack by considerable margins. But year-to-year, CBS cellar-dweller The Early Show was the only franchise to pick up steam. Two new editions of The Biggest Loser are expected to air. Also on NBC, Amy Poehler’s still untitled new sitcom will launch Thursday, April 9 at 8:30 p.m. in place of Kath & Kim (which had its order slashed from 22 to 17 episodes). New John Wells crime drama Southland will bow in the Thursday 10 p.m. hour, also on April 9, one week after veteran ER departs. And recently concluded Lipstick Jungle has not been officially canceled…yet. Also on NBC, new drama Kings, headlined by former Deadwood star Ian McShane, will air Sundays at 8 p.m. leading into a two-hour edition of Celebrity Apprentice. It kicks-off with a two-hour telecast on March 15.
