Time Warner Cable and Sinclair Broadcast Group added an extra day to negotiate a retransmission agreement for Sinclair's 33 TV stations affecting 4 million cable subscribers. The new deadline is now 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15.
"We're still working hard to reach an agreement," TWC said in a statement.
The original carriage deal between the two parties was set to expire on New Year's Eve. Averting a blackout, the companies agreed to a two-week extension.
If unable to come to terms, TWC said it would continue to provide network TV programming from the big four TV networks, ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox. To air the network programming, TWC would import network programming for ABC, CBS and NBC from stations outside the Sinclair markets, a controversial practice that TWC used in upper New York. The cable firm has a separate deal with Fox.
