Speed Network Goes Into High Gear With Summer Slate

Cable's Speed network is putting the pedal to the metal, developing several projects scheduled for summer premieres.

Among them are Whipped, a one-hour game show in which driving enthusiasts show off their skills—in their own cars—on extreme obstacle courses; and Ultimate Gymkhana (working title), another extreme driving show, this time from Rob Cohen, director of The Fast and The Furious. Boasting theatrical film production values, the project features two top drivers from the worlds of drifting and/or rally competing on real-world landscapes, rather than the traditional straight line or oval courses. Ex-WWE star Stacy Keibler hosts, along with race car driver and TV personality Andrew Comrie-Picard.

Other new programs include The Car Show, an in-studio talk show starring comic Adam Carolla and panelists including automotive writers Dan Neil and Matt Farrah, and retired pro basketball player John Salley; and Come Drive With Me, in which four self-proclaimed auto buffs rate one another's rides.

Speed, a unit of Fox Sports Media Group, also is teaming with Sony and Nissan on a nonscripted series based on videogame Gran Turismo 5.
