What’s the first information you consume in the morning?
I just check out Google News. I do have an alert set for my name, but that’s the only one.
What have you been listening to lately?
I’ve been listening a lot to this group called Ida, and also Heart to Heart, which is a song by Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald. That’s been playing nonstop.
How do you listen to music?
I like to own my music. All those weird streaming services—they don’t really make much sense to me. I mean, if you’re at a party and you just want to stream something immediately, that’s fine. But for me to listen to music, I never really felt like, “This is a great deal!” It’s too complicated.
You post a lot on Vine. Where do you stand in the Vine vs. Instagram video debate?
I hate Instagram video because, one, Instagram was bought by Facebook, and I hate Facebook. It’s a piece of shit. I think Facebook is massively irrelevant, but people are hooked on it. So I had that bias going into it. The other thing is that I just like Vine. It’s a great concept, it was first, and I like how simple it is. It keeps everything more lo-fi and honest. I actually tweeted about it: “Silly rabbit, Instagram is for pictures, Vine is for Vines!”
Are you a TV junkie?
As a kid, I was a total TV head. But in the ’90s, I moved to Seattle. During that time, I never had a TV, so I got used to not having commercials. So nowadays, I watch a lot of TV again because there’s no commercials—I’ll buy seasons of shows on Amazon and iTunes. Lately, I’ve been watching Continuum, which is my favorite sci-fi show right now; Defiance; Burn Notice; and a lot of the DC comics cartoons, like Shazam, Captain Marvel. And I love Arrow. It’s ridiculously awesome.
You’re also a contributor to Jash, the new YouTube comedy channel. Were you a big YouTube user before you became involved?
No—I hated YouTube. I still do. It’s just about people putting things up, trying to get a rise, being funny or thinking they’re being funny. There are some good things, but I would say that 95 percent of it is bullshit. And the ads … I might actually really like some of the videos if it weren’t for the ads. It’s weird that I have a YouTube channel [laughs].
Do your videos on Jash have ads?
They do, but supposedly they’re related to our content. The idea behind Jash was to try and create an island of quality in YouTube—not to say there aren’t other places like that.
Give us the skinny on your favorite app.
The one I use the most is Uber. I know the guys [who founded it]. I think they’re doing an amazing job.
With such a bloated media universe, how do you cut out the fat?
It’s a self-governing system. I tend not to consume a lot of outside stuff—I don’t read books—because I like to have my own observations of the world. I just try not to be influenced too much.
