Go to the website, click on Ratings Box (the first category), then Last Night’s Results, and Monday, June 1, 2009. ---------- Note: The listing of winners and losers will return in September. ---------- -Reality Alert:38 percent of last night’s schedule was non-scripted programming. ---------- -Ratings Breakdown: CBS dominated this first Monday in June, beating second-place NBC by 24 percent in the overnights with its encore combination of The Big Bang Theory (#1: 4.6/ 8), How I Met Your Mother (#1t: 4.4/ 7), Two and a Half Men (#1: 6.8/ 11), Rules of Engagement (#1: 5.4/ 8) and CSI: Miami (#1: 6.1/10). As a reminder, relocated How I Met Your Mother will anchor Monday next fall, followed by new Jenna Elman sitcom Accidentally on Purpose, the returning Two and a Half Men, relocated The Big Bang Theory and veteran CSI: Miami. I had the opportunity to watch the pilot of Accidentally on Purpose yesterday and was not, unfortunately, impressed. While I am the first to say there is nothing wrong with generic comedy, there was not a laugh to be found seeing the former Dharma & Greg star hanging out with a young bunch of young dirt-bags. In season-premiere news, the two-hour launch of NBC’s already addictive I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! (which formerly aired on ABC in 2003) did not impress, with a 4.3/ 7 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m. Take a look at the half-hour breakdown: I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! (NBC)8:00 p.m.: 4.2/ 7 (#2)8:30 p.m.: 4.4/ 7 (#1t)9:00 p.m.: 4.3/ 7 (#2t)9:30 p.m.: 4.4/ 7 (#3) While I will reserve any judgment until the demos come in, I will say that Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt are arguably the most obnoxious “celebrities” I have ever seen in a reality series. Peppery Janice Dickinson was tame compared to them! One night in and I am hooked! Look for I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here in the 8 p.m. hour through Thursday in this first week. I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here led into what NBC was billing as the finale of Medium, which scored a second-place 4.9/ 9 at 10 p.m. Medium, of course, moves to CBS next season out of Ghost Whisperer and into Numbers on Friday. With the improved support, ratings are likely to increase. Over at ABC, another two-hour edition of The Bachelorette (which is one hour too many) averaged a lackluster 4.0/ 6 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m. Comparably, that was seven percent below NBC’s directly competing I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! Here is the half-hour breakdown: The Bachelorette (ABC)8:00 p.m.: 3.8/ 7 (#3)8:30 p.m.: 3.8/ 6 (#4)9:00 p.m.: 4.0/ 6 (#4)9:30 p.m.: 4.3/ 7 (#4) Leading out of The Bachelorette was Here Comes the Newlyweds at a last-place 3.5/ 6 at 10 p.m. What a night of nonsense! Fox aired repeats of House (#3: 4.0/ 7) and Bones (#2: 4.5/ 7) last night. And the CW capped off the evening with repeats of Gossip Girl (#5: 0.8/ 2) and One Tree Hill (#5: 0.7/ 1), which will remain intact next season. Airing out of House on Fox next fall will be the sophomore season or relocated Lie to Me. Source: Nielsen Media Research data _______________________________________________________________________________________ Ratings Box:What’s Hot/What’s Not -Strong Debut for Conan O’Brien on The Tonight Show:The premiere of Conan O’Brien as host of veteran NBC franchise The Tonight Show opened with a hefty 7.1 rating/17 share in the metered markets last night. Overall, that was the highest overnight rating for a Tonight Show telecast on Monday since Jan. 24, 2005 (which featured a tribute to Johnny Carson), and seventh-highest rated for the night since Jay Leno took over as host on May 25, 1992. Comparably, the 7.1 overnight rating was up by 82 percent over The Tonight Show’s second-quarter average (3.9). And it beat CBS’ competing Late Show with David Letterman (2.8/ 7) by 154 percent, and ABC’s combination of Nightline (2.7/ 6) and Jimmy Kimmel Live (1.2/ 4 – encore telecast) by an average of 264 percent. The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, in addition, was Monday’s top-rated telecast in the metered markets in prime-time. And it lifted lead-out Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to a 2.5/ 9 in the overnights -- its best best overnight rating to-date for a Monday telecast. ---------- -Record Performance for The NBA Playoffs on TNT:Based on 43 games, coverage of the 2009 NBA Playoffs on TNT averaged a 3.1 national rating in households -- up 19 percent from one year earlier (based on 41 games). Total viewing levels was 4.71 million, an increase of 23 percent from the 3.81 million from last year. And demographic growth was as much as 23 percent among both adults 18-49 (2.68 million) and adults 25-54 (2.52 million). TNT, meanwhile, scored its most-watched cable telecast of all-time with game four of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Orlando Magic and Cleveland Cavaliers at 10.07 million viewers. The upcoming fourth season of Hannah Montana (a favorite in my household) will feature the Stewart family saying goodbye to their beachfront Malibu home. -Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew Announces New Cast:Season three of VH1 reality series Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, which returns early in 2010, will feature Hollywood Madam Heidi Fleiss, model Lisa D’Amato, former One Day at a Time star Mackenzie Phillips, basketball great (and recent Celebrity Apprentice participant) Dennis Rodman, actor Tom Sizemore, musician Mike Starr, Real World Hollywood’s Joey Kovar, country music singer Mindy McCready and Playboy Playmate Ann Peniche.
