What’s the first information you consume in the morning?
Whether I’m winning or losing in Words With Friends.

I’ve heard that’s pretty popular on the Mad Men set.
Yeah. Most of the people I play are those guys. We’ll all have our phones—especially Jon [Hamm] and Lizzie [Moss] and Lana, the head of makeup—and we’ll be playing against each other online and at the same time playing either dominoes or cribbage on the table.

What occupies your mind in the car?
Usually NPR. If I’m not into it, I turn on country music. I switch between classic rock and country.

Are you a TV junkie?
I am. I watch a lot of TV. Especially when you’re not on a show, you never know what you’re going to read for. So I always want to see shows—especially the new ones—at least once so I can get a sense of the tone and what the show is so I can bring that if I audition. But then I get hooked on them, and even if I don’t really like them, I want to see how they end.

What’s on your viewing list right now?
Mad Men, of course. Big fan of Game of Thrones. I’ve been watching Hannibal. Very excited for The Killing to come back. I love Veep. And we’re big into Netflix right now. My wife had never seen the early years of Mad Men, so we went back to the beginning and watched them. I also loved House of Cards on Netflix, and I cannot wait for Arrested Development. I may binge-watch those.

Give us the skinny on your favorite app.
Right now, Uber. That’s the coolest app. In L.A., you can’t walk outside and find a cab, so if you need a ride home, Uber is the best way to do it.

Do you have a bedtime media routine?
My wife does, and she wishes I did. When you’re working in television, on Monday, you’re done by 5 or 6 and in bed by 10, and by Friday, you don’t start until noon and you’re not home until 2 o’clock in the morning. So it just depends on the day. Some nights, it’s Jon Stewart and then bedtime; some nights, it’s Jon Stewart and reading a bit.

What are you reading?
I’ve had two on my nightstand for a long time that I haven’t read yet—The Devil in the White City and Gone Girl. I’d never read Adventures in the Screen Trade and More Adventures in the Screen Trade, and those are the last two books I finished. They’re amazing.

What’s your biggest digital indulgence?
Gaming on my iPhone. I actually learned how to play cribbage on the set of Mad Men this year, so when I first started playing, I would play the computer so I could learn to beat Jon. He’s really good.

Hamm or Slattery?
Hamm. Slats is pretty good too.
