Remember, results for any live sporting event are always approximate. Second overall in both categories was NBC with its combination of a repeat of Southland (Viewers: #2, 4.41 million; A18-49: #2t, 1.1/ 4 at 8 p.m.) and a two hour edition of Dateline (Viewers: 6.65 million; A18-49: 1.7/ 6 from 9-11 p.m.), which performed as follows by half-hour: Dateline (NBC) 9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 5.76 million (#2), A18-49: 1.3/ 5 (#2) 9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 6.64 million (#1), A18-49: 1.7/ 6 (#2)10:00 p.m. – Viewers: 6.85 million (#1), A18-49: 1.8/ 6 (#2)10:30 p.m. – Viewers: 7.35 million (#1), A18-49: 1.9/ 6 (#2) Of note: The second season premiere of Southland, which is scheduled in the Friday 9 p.m. hour out of relocated Law & Order and was supposed to launch on Sept. 25, has been pushed back until Oct. 23. Benchwarmer Dateline will keep the time period occupied. Next was Fox with two repeat episodes of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? at an average 4.43 million viewers and a 1.1/ 4 among adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m. As a reminder, a half-hour edition of the game show heads to first-run syndication this fall. Fox finished second in both categories care of its perennial combination of two repeat episodes of Cops (Viewers: #2, avg. 4.39 million; A18-49: #2, avg. 1.5/ 6) and America’s Most Wanted (Viewers: #2, 5.38 million; A18-49: #1t, 1.7/ 6), which will probably outlive us all. Worth noting for America’s Most Wanted was growth out of Cops of 990,000 viewers and 13 percent in the demo. Next was NBC care of a repeat of Law & Order: Criminal Intent (Viewers: #4, 3.96 million; A18-49: #3, 1.1/ 4), 9 p.m. special 25th Anniversary of Wrestlemania (Viewers: #3, 3.97 million; A18-49: #3, 1.3/ 4) and a repeat of Law & Order: SVU (Viewers: #2, 5.62 million; A18-49: #2, 1.6/ 6). Disney Channel now holds basic cable’s top four scripted telecasts over the last two years care of High School Musical 2 (17.2 million on Aug. 17, 2007), aforementioned Wizards of Waverly Place The Movie, Hannah Montana (10.7 million on Aug. 17, 2007) and crossover event Wizards on Deck With Hannah Montana (9.3 million on July 17, 2009). Wizards of Waverly Place The Movie opened as Disney Channel’s No. 2 original movie of all time in total viewers, kids 6-11 and tweens 9-14 (behind High School Musical 2). -Season High Big Brother:The departure of loudmouth Russell on Big Brother 11 resulted in a season high ratings performance on Thursday, Aug. 25, with 8.08 million viewers, a 2.7 rating/9 share in adults 18-49 and a 3.3/10 among adults 25-54. Comparably, this was the most-watched episode of Big Brother on any night of the week this summer, and best Thursday delivery in the two key demos. Big Brother finished first in the 8 p.m. hour in the three categories, building by 1.33 million viewers and as high as 23 percent among adults 18-49 from one week earlier. -Growing How’d You Get So Rich?:Recently introduced original TV Land series How’d You Get So Rich?, a Mr. TV favorite, perked up to a series-high 771,000 total viewers on Wednesday, Aug. 26, building by a whopping 117 percent over recent time period levels. Results among adults 25-54 (426,000) increased by an even greater 148 percent versus the prior four week time period average, while adults 40-54 (240,000) was up by 153 percent.
