PRIME-TIME METERED MARKET TUESDAY RATINGS:
Healthy Victory for NBC

Tuesday 7/26/11
Note: The overnight data now includes DVR playback until 3 a.m. local time. One year earlier it was based on Live data only. All times are ET/PT.

Household Rating/Share
NBC: 6.0/10, CBS: 4.7/ 8, Fox: 4.1/ 7, ABC: 2.7/ 5, CW: 0.4/ 1

Note: Comparisons to the year-ago period are not available today.

Yesterday's Winners:
America’s Got Talent (NBC), NCIS R (CBS), Hell’s Kitchen (Fox), Masterchef (Fox)

Yesterday's Losers: (excluding repeats):
101 Ways to Leave a Game Show (ABC), Combat Hospital (ABC)

Ratings Breakdown:
Led by America’s Got Talent, dominant NBC outdelivered second-place CBS by 28 percent in the overnights. Third overall was Fox, which will compete with NBC for first among adults 18-49, followed by ABC and lowly The CW. Thirty-eight percent of last night’s lineup were repeats.

In Week 2 news, game show It’s Worth What? on NBC finished third in the 8 p.m. hour, with a 3.6 rating/6 share. Comparably, that dipped by 12 percent from one week earlier (4.1/ 7 on July 19). Next was aforementioned champ America’s Got Talent, with a 7.2/12 from 9-11 p.m. The half-hour breakdown follows:

America’s Got Talent (NBC)
9:00 p.m.: 7.0/11 (#1)
9:30 p.m.: 7.3/12 (#1)
10:00 p.m.: 7.5/12 (#1)
10:30 p.m.: 7.1/12 (#1)

Also worth positively noting was Fox’s demo-friendly combination of Hell’s Kitchen (#2: 4.1/ 7) and Masterchef (#3: 4.0/ 7), which is clearly benefiting from the stronger lead-in support.

Elsewhere, CBS aired repeats of NCIS (#1: 6.1/11), which always plays well in non-originals, and spin-off NCIS: Los Angeles (#2: 4.3/ 7) from 8-10 p.m., followed by another Tuesday edition of 48 Hours Mystery at a second-place 3.7/ 6 at 10 p.m. ABC opened with a repeat of Wipeout (#4: 3.1/ 5 at 8 p.m.), followed by lackluster overnight performances from recent entries 101 Ways to Leave a Game Show (#4: 2.7/ 4) and Canadian drama Combat Hospital (#3: 2.6/ 4) from 9-11 p.m. And The CW capped off this fourth Tuesday in July with encore telecasts of 90210 (#5: 0.5/ 1) and failed year-ago reality/competition Shedding for the Wedding (#5: 0.4/ 1).

NATIONAL RATINGS IN PRIME-TIME:
Week of July 18, 2011

CBS and Fox shared top-rated honors for the low-rated summer week of July 18. CBS finished first in households, total viewers and adults 25-54 at levels close to one year earlier. Fox was No. 1 in adults 18-49 and adults 18-34, with losses of 11 to 14 percent from the year-ago week. ABC and The CW, which has no original programming this summer, were also on the downside.

There were two series premieres this week: game show It’s Worth What? on NBC and non-scripted Same Name on CBS. It’s Worth What? was the better of the two, with 6.73 million viewers (#11) and a 1.9 rating/6 share (#13t) as the Tuesday 8 p.m. anchor. Same Name, which airs in the Sunday 9 p.m. hour out of Big Brother, squandered the lead-in support with 5.36 million viewers (#33) and a 1.5/ 4 in the demo (#21t). Comparably, retention out of Big Brother among adults 18-49 (2.5/ 8) was only 60 percent. The three weekly airings of Big Brother, meanwhile, remained on the top 10 map as follows:

Big Brother (CBS)
Wednesday 8 p.m. – Viewers: 7.16 million (#8), A18-49: 2.6 rating/9 share (#3t)
Thursday 9 p.m. – Viewers: 6.90 million (#10), A18-49: 2.6/ 8 (#3t)
Sunday 8 p.m. – Viewers: 7.03 million (#9), A18-49: 2.5/ 8 (#5)
