See you back on Tuesday, July 5. ______________________________________________________________ PRIME-TIME METERED MARKET THURSDAY RATINGS: CBS Leads; Respectable Week 2 of Expedition Impossible on ABC Thursday 6/30/11 CBS: 4.5/ 8, ABC: 3.7/ 7, Fox: 3.3/ 6, NBC: 1.6/ 3, CW: 0.7/ 1 Percent Change From the Year-Ago Evening (Thursday 7/01/10): CBS: - 6, Fox: - 8, NBC: -11, ABC: -16, CW: -22 Respectable Summer Performers: Wipeout (ABC), The Big Bang Theory R (CBS), So You Think You Can Dance (Fox), CSI R (CBS), Expedition Impossible (ABC), The Mentalist R (CBS) Yesterday’s Losers (excluding repeats): Love Bites (NBC) Ratings Breakdown: CBS led the Thursday overnights on the final evening in June with its encore combination of The Big Bang Theory (#1: 4.6 rating/9 share), Rules of Engagement (#3: 3.5/ 6), CSI (#1: 4.5/ 8), which is also airing in its new Wednesday 10 p.m. hour, and The Mentalist (#1: 5.1/ 9). Stepping in for relocating CSI this fall is new J.J. Abrams crime solver Person of Interest. In Week 2 news, The Amazing Race-like Expedition Impossible on ABC (#3: 3.7/ 7 at 9 p.m.) dropped by 12 percent from its week-ago series opener (4.2/ 7 on June 23), but retention out of lead-in Wipeout (#3: 4.0/ 7 at 8 p.m.) was a very solid 92 period. And last week’s debut translated into a 2.4/ 7 among adults 18-49. Capping off the evening for ABC was Canadian drama Rookie Blue at a second-place 3.7/ 6 at 10 p.m. Considering a repeat of CSI bested an original telecast of Rookie Blue by 38 percent, this is not impressive. This fall on ABC, the upcoming revival of Charlie’s Angels at 8 p.m. leads into returning Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice from 9-11 p.m. Over at Fox, the live So You Think You Can Dance Results Show won the 8 p.m. hour, with a 4.3/ 8, which was compatible to its year-ago overnight performance. Next on Fox was a repeat of Glee, which does not play well in encores with a third-place 2.3/ 4. This fall, the live X Factor Results Show leads into returning crime solver Bones. Elsewhere, repeats of NBC comedies Community (#4: 1.5/ 3), 30 Rock (#4: 1.6/ 3), The Office (#4: 1.9/ 3), and Parks and Recreation (#4: 1.5/ 3) were all barely visible from 8-10 p.m. Episode 5 of colossal dud Love Bites followed with a last-place 1.4/ 3. Repeats of CW dramas The Vampire Diaries (#5: 0.7/ 1) and Nikita (#5: 0.7/ 1), which moves to Fridays at 8 p.m. this fall, were on par with typical nonoriginal levels. This fall, Parks and Recreation moves to 8:30 p.m. out of Community, while new sitcom Whitney inherits the Thursday 9:30 p.m. half hour out of Steve Carell-less The Office. 30 Rock returns in midseason. Leading out The Vampire Diaries on The CW is new drama The Secret Circle, the tale of a young woman (Brittany Robertson) who moves to her mother’s hometown of New Salem and discovers she is a witch who can unlock a centuries-old battle of good versus evil. Source: Nielsen Media Research data (R = repeat) _______________________________________________________________ RATINGS BOX: What’s Hot/What’s Not Above Average Jimmy Fallon on NBC: Based on the live-plus-same-day ratings for the week of June 20, Late Night With Jimmy Fallon on NBC at 12:35 a.m. ET/PT rose to its largest adult 18-49 audience (0.7 rating/4 share, 1.9 million) for the 2010-11 season. Comparably, that bested a week of repeats on CBS’ competing The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson (0.4/ 2) by 75 percent in the demo. In total viewers, Fallon averaged 1.9 million (vs. 1.3 million for Ferguson). Cable Scorecard – Wednesday, June 29: New USA drama Necessary Roughness is off and running, with a second-place finish in total viewers on basic cable for the evening (with 93 percent retention out of the season premiere of Royal Pains), and a No. 1 finish among adults 18-49 (tied with Royal Pains). While the series premiere of ABC Family sitcom State of Georgia was at the bottom end of the scale at 1.32 million viewers, results among adults 18-34 (458,000), women 18-34 (345,000), women 18-49 (553,000), viewers 12-34 (720,000) and females 12-34 (571,000) ranked first in the 8:30 p.m. half hour on all of basic cable. The summer season premiere of lead-in Melissa & Joey, meanwhile, outdelivered its Oct. 26, 2010 season ender by as much as 44 percent among females 12-34 (639,000).
