Household Rating/Share ABC: 9.1/15, Fox: 5.5/ 9, CBS: 5.0/ 8, NBC: 1.8/ 3, CW: 0.8/ 1 Percent Change From the Year-Ago Evening (Thursday, June 3, 2010): Fox: +31, ABC: +25, NBC: -10, CBS and CW: -11 each Yesterday’s Winners: NBA Finals, Game 5 (ABC), So You Think You Can Dance (Fox), The Big Bang Theory R (CBS) Yesterday’s Losers (excluding repeats): Love Bites (NBC) Ratings Breakdown: It was an easy overnight Thursday victory for ABC as a result of game 5 of the NBA Finals, Heat vs. Mavericks, at an estimated 11.6 rating/19 share for the prime-time portion from 9-11 p.m. Compared to game 4 of Boston vs. Los Angeles on The NBA Finals one year earlier (9.3/15 on June 10, 2010), this was an increase of 25 percent. Keep in mind, of course, that results for any live sporting event are approximate. Here are the half-hour results: NBA Finals, Game 5 (ABC) 9:00 p.m.: 9.3/16 (#1) 9:30 p.m.: 11.8/19 (#1) 10:00 p.m.: 12.3/20 (#1) 10:30 p.m.: 13.1/22 (#1) Earlier in the evening on ABC was another 8 p.m. edition of Jimmy Kimmel Live (#3: 4.1/ 7) and the half-hour Pre-Game Show at 8:30 p.m. (#2, 4.1/ 7). Over at Fox, consistent So You Think You Can Dance was on the map with a 5.5/ 9 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m. Comparably, that built by 10 percent from a one-hour edition one year earlier. In week two news, comedy anthology Love Bites on NBC dipped to a very last-place 1.9/ 3 in the overnights at 10 p.m., which was down by 21 percent from last week’s already disappointing 2.4/ 4 on June 2. Earlier in the evening on NBC were repeats of Community (#4: 1.7/ 3), which is not strong enough to anchor the evening next season, 30 Rock (#4: 1.7/ 3), The Office (#4: 2.0/ 3) and Parks and Recreation (#4: 1.7/ 3) from 8-10 p.m. Elsewhere, CBS aired repeats of The Big Bang Theory (#1: 5.4/ 9), which still won the 8 p.m. half-hour in the overnights, Rules of Engagement (#2t: 4.1/ 7), which will die a quick death next season as the Saturday anchor, CSI (#3: 4.9/ 8) and The Mentalist (#2: 5.3/ 9). The CW aired encore telecasts of The Vampire Diaries (#5: 0.8/ 1) and Nikita (#5: 0.8/ 1). Source: Nielsen Media Research data (R = repeat) _______________________________________________________________ RATINGS BOX: What’s Hot/What’s Not Final Wednesday Nationals: Ignited by 12.64 million viewers and a 3.7 rating/10 share among adults 18-49 for America’s Got Talent, NBC got over the Wednesday “hump” in winning fashion, besting a night of So You Think You Can Dance on Fox by 2.72 million viewers and one-tenth of a rating point in the demo. Ice Loves Coco (E!): 10:30 p.m. ET/PT (series premiere) Rapper and actor Ice-T and his fitness/swimsuit model wife Coco, who have only been apart one day in their 10-year marriage, are the subject of this new docudrama. __________________________________________________________ TV TIDBITS: Notes of Interest Final Upfront Tallies: The five broadcast networks were projecting in the vicinity of $9.5 billion in prime-time ad dollars in this upfront selling season. But the reported $9.2 billion in commercial time sold is still about 3.2 percent higher than the $8.8 billion from one year earlier. CBS led with approximately $2.65 billion, followed by ABC ($2.5 billion), Fox ($2.2 billion), NBC ($1.75 billion), and $420 million for The CW. Analysts are projecting $9.23 billion in business for the national cable networks (up 15 percent from one year earlier), with syndication (first-run and off-network) sold at a combined total of approximately $2.3 billion (up 10 percent). Twentieth Television Announces Dish Nation: Dish Nation, a first-run half-hour strip from Twentieth Television focusing on pop culture, celebrity scandals, and headline-grabbing conversation will debut on Monday, July 25 for a six-week test run on select Fox Television Stations. The participating affiliates are WWOR/New York, KTTV/Los Angeles, WTTG/Washington, D.C., WAGA/Atlanta, KSAZ/Phoenix, WJBK/Detroit, and WUTB/Baltimore. NBC Schedules Friends With Benefits: Upcoming NBC sitcom Friends With Benefits, which was supposed to debut in midseason, will now officially kick-off on Friday, Aug. 5 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Back-to-back episodes will air each week through Sept. 9. Friends With Benefits is yet another half-hour focusing on the trials and tribulations of a group of 20something singles as they navigate through the often tumultuous world of dating. Since when is life in your 20s so difficult? MTV Cancels Skins: Scripted teen-driven drama Skins, which created a stir of controversy over its content, will not be returning for a second season on MTV. After its Jan. 17 launch, a reported nine major sponsors (including Taco Bell, GM, and Subway) pulled their ads. “Skins is a global television phenomenon that, unfortunately, didn't connect with a U.S. audience as much as we had hoped," the network said in a statement. ABC Announces Launch Date for 101 Ways to Leave a Game Show: Upcoming ABC non-scripted hour 101 Ways to Leave a Game Show will premiere on Tuesday, June 21 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. 101 Ways to Leave Show, hosted by Jeff Sutphen, will feature a round of contestants competing in a series of multiple choice questions, with one person eliminated in an over the top way in each round. NBC and Columbia Records Announce Smash Deal: It is not debuting until midseason. But the recording rights for the soundtrack of upcoming NBC musical dramedy Smash have been formalized by NBC and Columbia Records. Smash star Katharine McPhee also signed a solo recording deal with Columbia Records. Smash, which also features former Will & Grace star Debra Messing and Academy Award winner Anjelica Huston, will air Mondays at 10 p.m. ET/ET out of returning The Voice beginning in January. Steve Wilkos to Host The 38th Annual Daytime Creative Arts Emmy Awards: Daytime talk show host Steve Wilkos has been tapped as host of The 38th Annual Daytime Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Friday, June 17 at The Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles. Wilkos will open and close the awards ceremony, as well as present the top awards of the evening, which include Outstanding Legal/Courtroom Program, Outstanding Morning Program, Outstanding Lifestyle Program, Outstanding Culinary Program and Outstanding Lifestyle/Culinary Host.
