Yesterday’s Winners: America’s Got Talent (NBC) Yesterday’s Losers (excluding repeats): 101 Ways to Leave a Game Show (ABC), Combat Hospital (ABC) Ratings Breakdown: It was an easy overnight Tuesday victory for NBC, which populated the evening with three-hours of summer sensation America’s Got Talent. The final audition round of America’s Got Talent dominated the 8-9 p.m. time period, with a 7.7 rating/14 share. At 9 p.m., the action shifted to Las Vegas and already stellar numbers rose to a 9.1/15 from 9-11 p.m., with the half-hour breakdown as follows: America’s Got Talent (NBC) 9:00 p.m.: 8.9/14 (#1) 9:30 p.m.: 9.4/15 (#1) 10:00 p.m.: 9.2/15 (#1) 10:30 p.m.: 9.0/15 (#1) Second-place CBS aired repeats of NCIS (#2: 5.9/10) and spinoff NCIS: Los Angeles (#2: 4.5/ 7) from 8-10 p.m. as planned, but a last-minute edition of 48 Hours Mystery focusing on Casey Anthony (in place the originally planned encore telecast of The Good Wife) finished a distant second at 10 p.m. with a 3.9/ 6. Over at ABC, week three of 101 Ways to Leave a Game Show took a hit minus original lead-in support from Wipeout, with a series-low 2.7/ 4 (#4) at 9 p.m. Three-week overnight track: 3.2/ 5 – 3.2/ 5 – 2.7/ 4. The Wipeout encore finished third in the 8 p.m. hour, with a 3.2/ 6. At 10 p.m., week three of scripted Canadian drama Combat Hospital finished a distant third, with a series-low 2.7/ 5. Three-week overnight track: 3.6/ 6 – 3.0/ 5 – 2.7/ 5. Elsewhere, Fox filled the evening with a repeat of Kitchen Nightmares (#4: 2.5/ 4) and an original installment of Masterchef (#3: 3.5/ 5), while The CW aired repeats of One Tree Hill (#5: 0.5/ 1) and Hellcats (#5: 0.4/ 1). Results among key adults 18-49 (2.1 rating) was its best in four years, with growth of 25 percent from one year earlier. Production will begin in New Orleans next month, with no official start date announced yet. Common Law marks the 10th original scripted drama on USA. The others are Burn Notice, Covert Affairs, Fairly Legal, In Plain Sight, Psych, Royal Pains, White Collar, and the recently introduced Necessary Roughness and Suits. Law & Order: Criminal Intent recently ended its final season. More Jersey Shore Drama: No one was arrested this time. But Jersey Shore housemate Vinny Guadagnino left the Jersey Shore house in Seaside Heights during production of Season 5 after getting into a fight with another cast member. MTV has issued no comment. The upcoming season of Jersey Shore, set in Italy, will begin on Thursday, August 4. Whale Wars Reunion: Lisa Ling will host one-hour special, Whale Wars: War Stories, on Friday, August 12 at 10 p.m. ET/PT immediately following the season finale of Animal Planet’s Whale Wars. Five Sea Shepherds—along with Captain Watson—will sit down with Ling to talk about what happened behind the scenes. Executive Announcement: Marketing and design specialist studio FIVE33 has named Leigh Rodwick as head of global partnership marketing. Rodwick joins FIVE33 after serving as marketing director for national retailer Hot Topic, where he developed partnerships with film and television studios, gaming companies, and record labels.
