Paula Abdul has signed on for her first official gig since leaving American Idol—VH1 Divas, the network's franchise special honoring female singers. Abdul will assume hosting duties for the show, which airs live on Sept. 17 from New York.
Earlier this month, Abdul announced she was leaving American Idol after contract negotiations collapsed between her and the show's producers. Subsequent negotiations for Abdul to appear on ABC's Dancing with the Stars and Ugly Betty have since fallen through, according to the Los Angeles Times, making Divas her first confirmed television job since departing Idol.
It's been speculated that Idol producers are still considering the possibility of having Abdul return to the judge's table, but her manager David Sonenberg denied the rumor last week, telling the LA Times that there have been "no discussions whatsoever."
As previously reported, VH1 is bringing back its Divas series this year for the first time since 2005. The lineup so far includes Adele, Kelly Clarkson, Leona Lewis, Miley Cyrus and Jordin Sparks. Additional performers and presenters will be announced leading up to the event, which also benefits the VH1 Save The Music Foundation, a nonprofit organization promoting music education in public schools.
