Pappas Bankruptcy to Have No Immediate Impact on CW, Fox, CBS Affils.

Pappas Telecasting’s filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection for 13 of its television stations, including five CW affiliates, three Fox affiliates and two CBS affiliates, will have no immediate impact on the operations of those stations.

Harry J. Pappas, founder and chairman of the company said, “We are confident that our viewers and advertisers will see no change in our high quality programming service.”

But based on some reported comments by Pappas officials, who blamed poor prime-time programming ratings, particularly at The CW, network officials are scratching their heads, since prime-time (or a few hours of daytime) accounts for only a fraction of each day’s schedule at those stations.

Paul McGuire, senior vp, communications, at The CW, said, “The CW programs less than 20 percent of Pappas’ weekly schedule.
