Nielsen: Percentage of DTV Unready HHDs Drops

While lawmakers debate whether to delay the Feb. 17 transition to digital TV, another 1.3 million TV homes made preparations ahead of the deadline. According to the latest data from Nielsen, as of Jan. 17, the percent of unready households has improved slightly to 5.7 percent of U.S. households, from 6.8 percent last month.

That still leaves 6.5 million U.S. households unprepared for the transition less than a month away.

The ranks of those least prepared -- African-Americans, Hispanics, Asian and persons under 35 -- has also improved some, but still remains in some cases, twice as high as the general population.

Albuquerque-Santa Fe, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Houston, Tulsa, Ok., and Portland, Ore. remain the least prepared markets, while Hartford-New Haven, Conn., Atlanta, Philadelphia, Boston, and New York have a lower percentage of unready households than the general population.
