NBC has secured its potent Sunday Night Football franchise through 2013.
NBC Sports and the NFL on Wednesday announced a two-year extension to their $600 million-per-year contract, which will keep SNF on NBC for the 2012 and 2013 football seasons.
NFL clubs approved the extension at a league meeting Wednesday in Chicago.
As with the original six-year agreement, which runs through the 2011 season, NBC will broadcast 16 regular-season SNF games, each season's NFL Opening Kickoff Thursday-night prime-time game, both Wild Card Saturday games and preseason games in prime time.
The NFL will continue to provide NBC with flexible game scheduling over the final seven weeks of the regular season.
SNF, which is preceded by Football Night in America, has been a solid ratings performer and a bright spot on the NBC schedule, which has suffered in the ratings for the past several seasons.
