Mediaweek TV: The Vampire Diaries

Following Twilight's phenomenal box-office success last year, not to mention a killer second season of HBO's True Blood (which ends Sunday, Sept. 13), comes yet another small screen fang-fest with The CW's The Vampire Diaries.

Premiering Sept. 10 on the network, the series is based on a teen-novel franchise that first hit stores in the early 1990's. And with Scream writer and Dawson's Creek creator Kevin Williamson at the helm, tears—and blood—are sure to be shed.

Mediaweek correspondent Alan Frutkin sat down with Williamson to talk about the series' origins, how it differs from other vampire stories and the challenge of producing quality television.
