Mediaweek TV: Presenting Showtime's The Big C

Cancer and TV comedy are two subjects that never have mixed…until now. In Showtime’s The Big C, premiering August 16, Laura Linney plays a suburban mom and schoolteacher whose cancer diagnosis upends her life.

Linney is joined by a stellar cast, including Academy Award nominee Gabourey Sidibe, Cyntha Nixon, and Oliver Platt.

The series was created by LA Groundlings alum Darlene Hunt, with Jenny Bicks (Men in Trees, Sex and the City) serving as showrunner.

Hunt and Bicks recently sat down with Mediaweek’s Alan Frutkin to talk about the show, and how they found comedy in such a serious subject.
