Incremental revenue from retransmission agreements is fast becoming a staple for TV stations. TV group owner Gray Communications said Monday (Dec. 29) it expected total revenue from retransmission agreements to total $3 million this year.
The Atlanta-based company, which operates 36 TV stations in 30 markets, also reported that it had reached retransmission consent agreements with substantially all of its large cable operators, for a total of 27 deals in principle involving 3.3 million in-market cable subscribers.
During 2009, those deals are expected to add up to $11 million of incremental cash retransmission consent revenue. Deals with smaller cable operators could increase the total.
Earlier this year, Gray reached definitive agreements with EchoStar and Cox Cable covering 1.2 million subscribers.
