Since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 33 percent at this same point last year to approximately 38 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted. ---------- -Friday’s Winners:CSI: NY (CBS), Blue Bloods (CBS) -Friday’s Losers (excluding repeats):Supernanny (ABC), School Pride (NBC), The Good Guys (Fox) and the night overall ---------- -Note: Any prior rating comparisons are based on the live plus same day ratings. ---------- -Ratings Breakdown:There was nothing unusual to report on this typically lackluster Friday, with CBS first in total viewers (with just over 9-million) and adults 18-49 (with a mere 1.7 rating in the demo). Second in both categories was ABC, followed by NBC, with Fox and The CW tied for the No. 4 and 5 spots, respectively. CBS’ Medium, which had its episode order slashed to 13, won the 8 p.m. hour, but 6.91 million viewers and a 1.5 rating/5 share among adults 18-49 is noticeably below year-ago occupant Ghost Whisperer. Also dominant were relocated CSI: NY (Viewers: 10.44 million; A18-49: 2.0/ 6) and freshman Blue Bloods (Viewers: 10.16 million; A18-49: 1.7/ 6) from 9-11 p.m., but Blue Bloods dipped to a series-low delivery. Regardless, these are still “winning” performance for CSI: NY and Blue Bloods on this HUT level challenged evening. In season-premiere news, ABC’ Supernanny returned to the Friday 8 p.m. hour with a second-place finish in both total viewers (4.79 million) and adults 18-49 (1.2/ 4), which was close to disappointing year-ago levels. Although Jo Frost has publicly said she is calling it quits, from a ratings standpoint Supernanny should have ended last season. Next on ABC was recent returnee Primetime: What Would You Do? (Viewers: #2, 5.67 million; A18-49: #2, 1.7/ 6 at 9 p.m.), followed by granddaddy 20/20 at 5.32 million viewers (#3) and a 1.6/ 5 in the demo (#2) at 10 p.m. Worth positively noting for Primetime: What Would You Do? was growth out of the 8:30 p.m. portion of Supernanny (Viewers: 4.86 million; A18-49: 1.2/ 4) of 810,000 viewers and a hefty 42 percent in the demo. Over at NBC was week three of inspirational reality dud School Pride (Viewers: #5, 2.26 million; A18-49: #5, 0.6/ 2 at 8 p.m.) and another two-hour installment of Dateline at 5.93 million viewers and a 1.3/ 4 among adults 18-49 from 9-11 p.m. Here is the half-hour breakdown for Dateline: Dateline (NBC) 9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 4.96 million (#3), A18-49: 1.1/ 4 (#3t) 9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 5.75 million (#3), A18-49: 1.3/ 4 (#3)10:00 p.m. – Viewers: 6.35 million (#2), A18-49: 1.4/ 5 (#3)10:30 p.m. – Viewers: 6.67 million (#2), A18-49: 1.4/ 5 (#3) Historically, School Pride plummeted to one of NBC’s worst performances in the Friday 8 p.m. hour in the history of the network. Don’t forget that sophomore returnee Who Do You Think You Are? is waiting in the midseason wings. Elsewhere, Fox populated this seventh Friday of the TV season with a repeat of House (Viewers: #3, 3.40 million; A18-49: #4, 1.0/ 4) and waiting-to-be axed The Good Guys (Viewers: #4, 2.72 million; A18-49: #5, 0.8/ 3). And The CW was consistent with soon-to-conclude Smallville (Viewers: #3, 2.61 million; A18-49: #3, 1.1/ 4) and compatible Supernatural (Viewers: #5, 2.42 million; A18-49: #4, 1.1/ 4). An option, no doubt, for Supernatural next season could be the Friday 8 p.m. time period. CBS programmed the night with repeats of NCIS (Viewers: #1, 6.31 million; A18-49: #2, 1.1 rating/4 share) and The Defenders (Viewers: #1, 5.24 million; A18-49: #2t, 1.0/ 3) from 8-10 p.m., followed by an original installment of Mr. TV favorite 48 Hours Mystery at 6.36 million viewers (#1 for the evening) and a 1.4/ 5 in the demo (#1) at 10 p.m. If you happen to like scripted crime solvers, you should be watching 48 Hours Mystery for the real thing. Fox, of course, aired its perennial combination of Cops (original and repeat – Viewers: #2, avg. 4.42 million; A18-49: #1, avg. 1.4/ 5 from 8-9 p.m.) and America’s Most Wanted (Viewers: #2, 4.73 million; A18-49: #1, 1.5/ 5). Elsewhere, NBC burned-off another episode of failed legal drama Outlaw (Viewers: #4, 3.53 million; A18-49: #4, 0.4/ 1 at 8 p.m.), followed by repeats of Law & Order: Los Angeles (Viewers: #3, 4.41 million; A18-49: #4, 0.7/ 2) and Law & Order: SVU (Viewers: #2, 5.46 million; A18-49: #2, 1.1/ 3) from 9-11 p.m. ABC closed the night with Saturday Night Football at a season-low 3.63 million viewers (#4) and a third-place 1.0/ 3 among adults 18-49 from 8-11 p.m. Here is the half-hour breakdown. Comparably, this was the highest rating in metered-market households for an SNL encore since Feb. 28, 2009 (4.8/12 for a telecast hosted by Neil Patrick Harris). -New Series Report Card:Based on live plus same day ratings, here are the latest results (in order of total viewers) for the Thursday freshman class: CBS’ $#*! My Dad Says, NBC’s Outsourced and Nikita on The CW. $#*! My Dad Says (CBS) - Thurs. 8:30 p.m.Viewers: 11.02 million (#1 in time period), A18-49: 3.4/10 (#1)Grade: BAbove-average in week seven with retention out of The Big Bang Theory (Viewers: 14.00 million; A18-49: 4.7/14 at 8 p.m.) of 79 percent in total viewers and 72 percent in the demo. Love it or hate it, the fit for $#*! My Dad Says out of Sheldon and Leonard and company is adequate. -----Outsourced (NBC) - Thurs. 9:30 p.m.Viewers: 5.74 million (#3), A18-49: 2.7/ 7 (#3)Grade: C Similar to $#*! My Dad Says, retention for Outsourced out of The Office (Viewers: 7.65 million; A18-49: 3.8/10 at 9 p.m.) was 75 percent in total viewers and 71 percent in the demo. It premieres on Monday, Dec. 20 with a two-hour telecast at 8 p.m., followed by additional telecasts that week in the Tuesday and Wednesday 9 p.m. hours and Thursday from 8-10 p.m. Additional air-dates will be announced. All times are Eastern. -More Days of Our Lives:NBC daytime serial Days of Our Lives has been renewed for an additional two years, taking it through Sept. 2013. The veteran sudser debuted in 1965. -Homecoming on TLC:Billy Ray Cyrus is heading to cable net TLC as host of a new limited series called Homecoming, which will feature a series of surprise military homecomings. Three hour-long episodes have been ordered for a spring 2011 premiere. -Introducing Disney Junior:Disney Channel will debut a new programming destination in February 2011 called Disney Junior, which will be targeted to children ages 2-7 and their families.
