Editor & Publisher, long the bible of the newspaper industry, yesterday was acquired by Duncan McIntosh Co. of Irvine, Calif.

E&P, formerly a unit of the Nielsen Co., had closed two weeks ago following the sale of several Nielsen properties to e5 Global Media. (Adweek, Brandweek, Mediaweek, The Hollywood Reporter and Billboard moved to e5.)

Terms of the E&P acquisition were not disclosed.

Quoted in an item on E&P's Web site, Duncan McIntosh said: "Such a critical information source for a newspaper industry so desperately in need of help should not go away. I've been a reader of E&P over the course of 30 years and know its incredible value to readers and advertisers."

Charles "Chas" McKeown continues as E&P publisher, and Mark Fitzgerald, a 26-year veteran who had been editor at large, was named the new editor.
