CBS Plays It Safe With Fall Lineup

CBS is playing a conservative hand next fall, adding five new shows to its schedule, including three dramas and two comedies.

Two of the new shows are joining the Monday lineup starting at 9:30 p.m., including the new sitcom Mike & Molly. Billed as a romantic comedy, it is from Chuck Lorre, who also created the CBS hit Two and a Half Men. Following at 10 p.m. is a remake of the '70's classic Hawaii Five-O.

Another new drama, The Defenders, about Las Vegas defense attorneys, will air at 10 p.m. on Wednesday. A third drama, Blue Bloods, about a New York family of Irish cops, will air Fridays at 10 p.m.

The second sitcom is $#*! My Dad Says, based on a Twitter feed by a man who tweets about the Archie Bunker-ish quips his father spouts.

Tuesday night returns in tact. On Wednesday, the net is shifting Survivor to the lead-off 8 p.m. from Thursday. The decade-old Survivor continues to “defy gravity,” said CBS scheduling chief Kelly Kahl, noting the show improved in the ratings this year versus last.

Kahl described the Thursday night attempt to establish a comedy block at 8 p.m. “another big move.” The night will lead off with Big Bang Theory, which moves from Monday night. It will be followed by $#*! My Dad Says.

Friday leads off with Medium, followed by CSI:New York, which leads into the new Blue Bloods, starring Tom Selleck. Saturday returns in tact. On the Sunday, the only change is CSI: Miami moving to the 10 p.m. time period.

Canceled shows include New Adventures of Old Christine, Ghost Whisperer and Gary Unmarried.
