Since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 33 percent at this same point last year to approximately 38 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted. ---------- -Friday’s Winners:CSI: NY (CBS), Blue Bloods (CBS) -Friday’s Losers (excluding repeats):Medium (CBS), The Good Guys (Fox), Outlaw (NBC) ---------- -Ratings Breakdown:CBS remains the network to beat on uneventful Friday with its combination of Medium (Viewers: #2, 6.10 million; A18-49: #1, 1.2 rating/5 share), which is not strong enough to anchor the evening, relocated CSI: NY (Viewers: #1, 9.87 million; A18-49: #1, 1.9/ 6) and week three of older-skewing Blue Bloods (Viewers: #1, 11.09 million; A18-49: #1t, 1.8/ 6), which remains the most-watched show on Friday. But an average 1.6 rating/6 share for the Eye net among adults 18-49 is certainly nothing to boast about. One year earlier, former 9 p.m. occupant Medium averaged 8.29 million viewers and a 2.0/ 6 among adults 18-49, so CSI: NY in bringing in more viewers (and Medium is ready to call it quits). On NBC, 10 p.m. occupant Outlaw, which is on temporary hold until the next batch of ratings come in, is now waiting for the axe to officially swing with a last-place finish in both total viewers (4.23 million) and adults 18-49 (1.0/ 3) at 10 p.m. Comparably, this is worse than year-ago failed occupant The Jay Leno Show (Viewers: 5.31 million; A18-49: 1.4/ 4 on Oct. 9, 2009), and the retention out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of lead-in Dateline (Viewers: 6.67 million; A18-49: 1.7/ 6) was only 63 percent in total viewers and 59 percent in the demo. Overall, Dateline averaged 6.53 million viewers (#2) and a 1.6/ 6 (#1) among adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m., with the half-hour breakdown as follows: Dateline (NBC)8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 6.05 million (#1), A18-49: 1.4/ 6 (#1)8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 6.93 million (#1), A18-49: 1.3/ 5 (#2)9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 6.45 million (#2), A18-49: 1.6/ 6 (#2)9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 6.67 million (#2), A18-49: 1.7/ 6 (#2) Since inspirational reality hour School Prides launches at 8 p.m. next Friday, my guess is the network will ultimately air two hours of Dateline from 9-11 p.m. by November. Over at ABC, repeats of Modern Family (Viewers: #3, 3.89 million; A18-49: #3, 1.0/ 4), The Middle (Viewers: #3, 3.03 million; A18-49: #4, 0.9/ 3) and week two of No Ordinary Family (Viewers: #3, 3.04 million; A18-49: #3, 0.9/ 3) filled the 8-10 p.m. block, followed by veteran 20/20 at 5.43 million viewers (#2) and a 1.8/ 6 among adults 18-49 (#2t) at 10 p.m. Since originally scheduled 9 p.m. drama Body of Poof has been pushed back until midseason (and there is still no word on Secret Millionaire at 8 p.m.), it is anyone’s guess what ABC will end up airing on this evening into 20/20/ Sluggish Fox, which is moving former 8 p.m. drama Human Target to Wednesday next month, opened the night with a repeat of House (Viewers: #4, 2.67 million; A18-49: #4t, 0.9/ 3 at 8 p.m.), which is certainly not the force it used to be. Next was waiting-to-be canceled The Good Guys at a not so good 2.37 million viewers (#4) and a last-place 0.8/ 3 in the demo at 9 p.m. The CW capped off the night with the perfectly compatible Smallville (Viewers: #5, 2.37 million; A18-49: #3, 1.0/ 4), which won the 8 p.m. hour in adults 18-34 (1.1/ 5), men 18-34 (1.3/ 6) and men 18-49 (1.3/ 5), and lead-out Supernatural (Viewers: #5, 2.28 million; A18-49: #3, 1.0/ 3). Supernatural finished first at 9 p.m. in adults 18-34 (1.2/ 5) and men 18-34 (1.3/ 4). Since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 33 percent at this same point last year to approximately 38 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted. --------------- -Saturday’s Winners: Nothing -Saturday’s Losers (excluding repeats):Saturday Night Football (ABC) ---------- -Ratings Breakdown:CBS finished first in total viewers (at just 5.13 million) and Fox No. 1 among adults 18-49 (with a mere 1.5 rating/5 share in the demo) on this typically bland third Saturday of the new season. CBS aired repeats of NCIS (Viewers: #1, 5.47 million; A18-49: #3, 0.9/ 3) and The Defenders (Viewers: #3, 4.23 million; A18-49: #3, 0.7/ 3) from 8-10 p.m., followed by veteran 48 Hours Mystery first in both total viewers (5.67 million) and adults 18-49 (1.3/ 4) at 10 p.m. Worth positively noting for 48 Hours Mystery (a must see option for Mr. TV) was the double-digit percent growth out of The Defenders encore. Fox, as always, filled the night with Cops (original and repeat – Viewers: #3, avg. 4.27 million; A18-49: #2, avg. 1.3/ 5) and America’s Most Wanted (Viewers: #1, 5.00 million; A18-49: #1, 1.7/ 6). Comparably, America’s Most Wanted built out of the 8:30 p.m. portion of Cops (Viewers: 4.49 million; A18-49: 1.3/ 5) by 510,000 viewers and 31 percent in the demo. College Football on ABC was below-average with just 4.33 million viewers (#3) and a second-place 1.4/ 5 among adults 18-49 from 8-11 p.m. Here is the half-hour breakdown: College Football (ABC) 8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 5.25 million (#1), A18-49: 1.5/ 6 (#1) 8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 5.22 million (#2), A18-49: 1.7/ 6 (#1) 9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 4.88 million (#2), A18-49: 1.6/ 6 (#2) 9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 4.14 million (#3), A18-49: 1.4/ 5 (#2)10:00 p.m. – Viewers: 3.43 million (#3), A18-49: 1.1/ 4 (#1t)10:30 p.m. – Viewers: 3.07 million (#3), A18-49: 1.2/ 4 (#2t) And struggling NBC filled the night with repeats of The Event (Viewers: #4, 2.26 million; A18-49: #4, .5/ 2), Law & Order: Los Angeles (Viewers: #4, 3.30 million; A18-49: #4, 0.6/ 2) and Law & Order: SVU (Viewers: #2, 4.39 million; A18-49: #3, 1.1/ 4). Needless to say, we all miss the old Saturday of yesterday where shows like The Jackie Gleason Show, My Three Sons, Petticoat Junction, Mannix, All in the Family, MASH, The Jeffersons, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Bob Newhart Show, The Carol Burnett Show, The Love Boat, Fantasy Island and The Golden Girls were widely seen. Go to the website, click on Ratings Box (the first category), then Last Night’s Results, and Sunday, October 10, 2010 ---------- -Yesterday’s Winners:Football overrun (CBS), 60 Minutes (CBS), Sunday Night Football: Philadelphia at San Francisco (NBC), The Amazing Race (CBS), Desperate Housewives (ABC), Family guy (Fox), Undercover Boss (CBS) -Yesterday’s Losers (excluding repeats): Nothing…Sunday remains an active night of television. ---------- -Ratings Breakdown: Led by an approximate one-hour primetime football overrun, CBS dominated this third Sunday of the new season in the overnights, with a 21 percent advantage over second-place NBC. Third overall was ABC, followed by demo dependent Fox. Keeping in mind that all program results for CBS are approximate due to the football overrun, the NFL match-up more than doubled the three competing networks combined with a 15.4 rating/27 share in the 7 p.m. hour. Next on the Eye net was granddaddy 60 Minutes at 8 p.m. (#1: 10.3/16), followed by The Amazing Race (#3: 7.9/12) and Undercover Boss (#2: 8.0/13) from 9-11 p.m. At this point, I do not know how the participants on Undercover Boss are not aware what is going on, particularly when they are en route to the company’s headquarters at the end of the episode. On NBC, Philadelphia at San Francisco on Sunday Night Football was below-average but still clearly on the map, with an estimated 11.5/18 from 8:30-11 p.m. As a reminder, results for any live sporting event are always approximate. Here is the half-hour breakdown: Sunday Night Football (NBC) 8:30 p.m.: 11.0/18 (#1) 9:00 p.m.: 12.1/19 (#1) 9:30 p.m.: 12.2/19 (#1)10:00 p.m.: 11.2/18 (#1)10:30 p.m.: 11.2/18 (#1) Earlier in the evening on NBC was pre-game Football Night in America as follows: Football Night in America7:00 p.m. – part one: 1.5/ 3 (#4)7:30 p.m. – part two: 2.1/ 4 (#4)8:00 p.m. – part three: 7.0/12 (#2) ABC had nothing unusual to report with its combination of America’s Funniest Home Videos (#2: 3.8/ 7), Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (#3: 5.3/ 9), Desperate Housewives (#2: 8.6/13) and Brothers & Sisters (#3: 6.4/10), which held 74 percent of the 9:30 p.m. portion of Desperate Housewives (8.7/13). As usual, Teri Hatcher has the worst storyline on the dramedy this season, and Vanessa Williams is the new Nicolette Sheridan. Fox filled the 7 p.m. hour with repeats of The Cleveland Show (#3: 2.2/ 4) and The Simpsons (#3: 2.5/ 4), followed by original telecasts of its 8-10 p.m. animated block of The Simpsons (#4: 4.4/ 7), The Cleveland Show (#4: 3.7/ 6), Family Guy (#4: 4.7/ 7) and American Dad (#4: 3.4/ 5). Family Guy, as always, was the standout, with overnight growth of 27 percent out of The Cleveland Show. My Dad Says and NBC's Outsourced; and episode five of The CW's Nikita. $#*!
