Broadcasters Vow to Protect DTV Transition

Television broadcasters across the nation have vowed to protect the transition to digital TV by ensuring uninterrupted service via distribution partners in the weeks surrounding the Feb. 17 transition date. The pledge, announced Tuesday (Aug. 12) by the National Association of Broadcasters, calls for broadcasters to make sure their signals are cleared on cable and other subscription TV providers from February 4 through March 4.

Cable companies, many of which have faced tough retransmission negotiations, would have preferred a longer period to guarantee that the DTV transition stays out of contract negotiations.
