Arbitron Taps Steven Smith as Executive VP, Survey Ops

To strengthen survey operations as it rolls out the portable people meter radio service, Arbitron announced Thursday (Aug. 28) it had named Steven Smith executive vp of survey operations. Smith succeeds Claire Kummer, who was named to the newly-created position of executive vp and chief quality officer.

Both report to Steve Morris, chairman, president and CEO for Arbitron.

Smith will be responsible for the roll out of the PPM service to the top 50 markets by the end of 2010. He will also oversee more than 800 employees and manage all survey operations for both the PPM and diary-based radio ratings services. As part of his new position, Smith is charged with developing new operating processes and systems to improve Arbitron's sample quality and measure new audio services, including the Internet and satellite.

Most recently, Smith was chief operating officer of Flexi-Mat Corp. Prior to that he served as executive vp of North American operations for Information Resources.
