Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest on ABC continued to rule as the most-watched New Year’s Eve countdown special. Clark averaged an 8.5 metered-market household rating during its telecast from 11:30 p.m.-1 a.m.

Yet this is the third consecutive year Clark’s rating has declined in the overnights. Rockin’ Eve pulled a 9.5 preliminary number in 2005, a 9.1 in 2006 and an 8.8 in 2007.

Primary competitor New Year’s Eve With Carson Daly on NBC earned a 5.0
