YouTube Expands Partnership Program

Now you too can make money on YouTube! As long as your video is viral enough.

The Google-owned video repository has announced plans to expand the two-year-old YouTube Partnership Program–which helps the site’s growing universe of independent content producers promote and monetize their content. Going forward, any one-hit-wonder-type video on YouTube is now eligible for the program, as long as that particular clip meets a certain level of viral criteria, as determined by YouTube itself.

According to YouTube product manager Shenaz Zack, once a particular video begins to accumulate an unspecified number of views and begins to show signs that it’s being spread virally by the site’s community, YouTube will email the video’s producer, offering a chance to turn on monetization.
