As if some folks haven’t found Facebook addictive enough, its users in the United Kingdom can now gamble. The U.K. is the first country to get offered real-money gaming on the social site.

London-based developer Gamesys has built a gambling app on Facebook, allowing adults to play Bingo & Slots Friendzy with their major credit/debit cards and PayPal accounts. The move was announced yesterday (Aug. 6), while unveiling 90 different for-cash games.

"People love playing new types of games with their friends on Facebook and real-money gaming is a popular leisure activity in the U.K.," said Julien Codorniou, Facebook’s European lead for gaming partnerships, in a prepared statement. "We're delighted to be working with Gamesys to enable them to offer their games on Facebook so that people can enjoy playing more games with their friends."

According to the firms, Facebook’s age-gating and location-detecting technologies will ensure that players are 18 years and older, and in the U.K. Gamesys’ app will also include tools to potentially help players limit the money and time they spend on gambling on the social site. The BBC reported that Gamesys' products are licensed and regulated by the government of Gibraltar, letting it market games in Great Britain. Gamesys operates a popular bingo-and-slots website in the U.K. called Jackpotjoy.com.

Meanwhile, due to U.S. law prohibiting online gambling, it's unlikely that Facebook.com will be the home to American gamblers any time soon.
