Vibrant Reports a 20 Percent Ad Revenue Lift for '09

An often overlooked sector of the digital ad business enjoyed robust growth last year, despite a prolonged economic downturn.

Vibrant, which serves contextually relevant ads when Web users mouse over specific words within text-based articles, pulled in $100 million in ad revenue last year, according to company officials. That represents a 20 percent lift in revenue during a year when display advertising revenue declined and even the search ad business showed signs of a slowdown.

Officials at Vibrant (formerly Vibrant Media) said the company enjoyed a record revenue and profit year as more traditional brands were drawn to the unique ad format; in fact, the company’s revenue from the consumer packaged goods category alone soared by 68 percent in 2009.
