TGI Fridays Tries to Build Twitter Following With Chicken Wings

Valentine's Day should inspire many social media branding efforts

TGI Fridays will try to lure Twitter users with chicken wings during Valentine's Day week into becoming part of its following, which currently totals 63,100 on the social media platform.

In an effort running Feb. 10 through Feb. 14, consumers can win a $15 gift card toward a plate of wings by following @tgifridays and tweeting #thankswingman. The first 500 men or women to complete those actions win a card.

A brand spokesperson said the effort will be supported by Promoted Tweets before Valentine's Day. The initiative takes aim at singles—in parties of two, as it often happens—going out on the town and looking for romance.

Expect to see other social media brand plays around the lovers' holiday.

For instance, Rain Forest Films' About Last Night is already buying Promoted Tweets for "Valentine's Day" search results on Twitter. The romantic comedy premieres nationwide next Thursday.
