The rise of social media ad spend should make for some interesting moves in the digital marketing talent ecosystem during the coming months.
We Are Social seems to be getting out ahead of the pack, announcing today that Layla Revis—previously a digital strategy vp at Ogilvy & Mather—is now the social media agency's senior director. Revis was social media lead at Ogilvy for the Government of Mexico, LG Home Electronics and Lincoln, among other clients.
Revis told Adweek she was attracted to the smaller shop's "vibrant, international, creative culture." We Are Social, headquartered in London, has eight offices worldwide, opening a New York space last year—which is where she'll be working.
"It still has a startup feel," Revis said. "People assume going from a small shop to a big shop will be dramatically different. But since Ogilvy and We Are Social are both global agencies, I think there will be similarities in terms of how they approach social campaigns."
Four-year-old We Are Social today also hired Erin Dorr as account director from competitor Dachis Group, where she managed social initiatives for Nestle, U.S. Cellular, HP and Kodak.
Meanwhile, the scramble for scarce social and mobile advertising talent should prove to be an emerging theme among agency developments in 2013.
