Former Daily Beast and New York Post writer Peter Lauria will be joining Dan Abrams’ soon-to-be-launched Mogulite as a consulting editor. The site, which is the seventh in the Abrams-owned blog network, which includes Mediaite, will have “the same kind of philosophy of Mediaite” in treating “media figures as celebrities to some degree,” Abrams told the Huffington Post.
Lauria is a bit of a controversial figure—Harvey Weinstein joked that the writer was the inspiration for Inglourious Basterds and the “No. 1 bastard” he knew—but “there's no one who's covered the 'mogul beat' more or better than Peter Lauria,” according to Abrams.
Lauria won’t be working full-time for Mogulite, and plans to spend the first few months following the site’s April 25 debut writing stories and providing information to managing editor Amy Tennery. He sees his role at the site as a way to “get back into the game and work [his] sources.”
Abrams expects that this network of sources will prove a major advantage for his blog: “This is the kind of site where contacts will matter,” Abrams said. "I want the site to be the place where news is broken about movers and shakers of the industry."
