The New York Times and IBM Are Promoting a New Movie With Their First Augmented Reality Mobile App

The New York Times, a pioneer of using virtual reality in journalism in 2016, has teamed up with IBM to begin entering the world of augmented reality.

Today, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, IBM and the Times' T-Brand Studio branded content team unveiled a branded AR app ahead of the release of "Hidden Figures," a 20th Century Fox movie coming to theaters on Friday. (The movie tells the true story of three African-American women whose mathematical training was instrumental in NASA's 1950s space race.)
