Native Mobile Ad Firm MediaSpike Staffs Up

Calvin Wong named CRO, Manny Anekal out

The mobile ad company MediaSpike has made two key hires, while also adding a pair of big names to its board.

Calvin Wong is MediaSpike's new chief revenue officer. Wong was most recently evp at SnakBlox, a social ad technology firm. Wong replaces Manny Anekal, who joined the company this past March following stints at the mobile ad firm Kiip and Zynga.

Also landing at MediaSpike is Joe O’Brien, who has been named director of strategic partnerships. O’Brien was most recently director of business development for appsavvy. 

MediaSpike helps brands like Pepsi insert virtual images into mobile games. The company pitches its ad solutions as a more native experience rather than mobile banners or interstitial. According to COO John McCrea, the company's network of games has soared from around a million unique users in June to 20 million monthly uniques currently. Over the past five months the company has inked deals with the mobile publishers  Meez, Tetris Online, Big Blue Bubble, and Bigpoint Games.

The company has also added two prominent digital names to its advisory board: Brandon Berger, chief digital officer at Ogilvy & Mather, and Gokul Rajaram, one of the developers behind both Google and Facebook's ad businesses. Rajaram is now product engineering lead at Square.
