JiWire: Wi-Fi Usage on the Rise

Thanks to more places offering Wi-Fi for free, usage grew 8.2 percent in fourth quarter compared to the previous quarter, according to JiWire, a company that operates a local-based Wi-Fi ad network. Usage, defined as visits, was up 8.2 percent quarter-to-quarter; and was strongest in airports, up 26 percent; followed by cafes, up 22.9 percent.

The number of Wi-Fi spots in the U.S. grew to 69,786 in fourth quarter, up 2.9 percent over the previous quarter.
