iVillage Builds a Big Book Club

Given that women seem to like books, and movies, and books that become movies, iVillage has decided to tap into its robust female audience to form a giant book club.

The NBCUniversal-owned site has launched the iVillage Book Club Connection in conjunction with NBCUniversal-owned Focus Features. The idea is create an online forum for fans and readers of two books-turned-Focus-releases: the classic Jane Eyre, which is currently in theaters and One Day, the best-selling novel by David Nicholls, soon to be a movie starring Oscar co-host Anne Hathaway.

Each month, iVillage will select a book for its club to read and dissect (Jane Eyre is the current selection; One Day will be for July, upon the movie’s release). Users can gather to discuss the selections with other fans, or form their own private groups with friends on the site.

In addition to serving as forums, iVillage Book Club Connection features related content, including articles such as “3 Life Lessons Modern Women Can Learn From Jane Eyre" and “14 Great Books Turned Into Movies;” as well as tips for forming and hosting book clubs.
