Internet Week Kicks off in New York

Internet Week kicked off here with a Monday evening reception at Gracie Mansion.

Speaking at the event, Mayor Michael Bloomberg remarked that, though other industries in New York are experiencing a downturn, the city’s technology sector is “booming.” He pointed to Google’s sizable office in New York as evidence of the industry’s scope.

“I think it’s the perfect time to celebrate New York’s Internet achievements,” Bloomberg said.

Internet Week begins Tuesday and runs through June 10 in New York and comprises offline Web-focused events leading up to the 12th annual Webby Awards Gala.
