Intel announced one of its star executives, Sean Maloney, will be making a big move. Leaving Silicon Valley behind, Maloney will relocate to Beijing to assume the position of chairman of Intel China.
Maloney will oversee Intel’s operations in China as the first high profile executive from the company to take a long-term post in the closely-watched market. The move is a further affirmation of Intel’s focus on China as a growing consumer powerhouse for personal computers.
On more than one occasion, Maloney’s name has been tossed around as a potential successor for Intel Chief Executive Paul Otellini. He has been with Intel since 1982 and, after suffering from a devastating stroke last year, continues to climb the corporate ladder. If there was an Intel man to flourish at a Beijing posting, it would be Maloney.
