Base New York
What’s the first information you consume in the morning?
I look at the New York Daily News online, and then I go to the entertainment sites and check my email. I get the Daily News in print on Sundays, but Monday through Friday, it’s on the computer or my iPad.
What do you read or watch or listen to at the breakfast table?
I watch Morning Joe to get my news, and then it’s either SpongeBob SquarePants or Yo Gabba Gabba! I have a 7-year-old son.
What occupies your mind in the car, on the subway, train or bus?
I take the subway all the time here in New York. I love people watching and trying to figure out everybody’s background, especially teenagers—they’re so uninhibited when they display puppy love. I concoct stories in my mind: “Are you guys like Romeo and Juliet?”
Are you a TV junkie or on an airtime-restricted diet?
At night, I try to sneak in some of the shows that I love. I can’t live without 30 Rock—I was a fan before I joined the show in 2007—and The Office. Revenge is my drama. And I love Jimmy Kimmel if I can stay up late enough to watch him.
Before bed, do you bite into a novel, graze on Twitter or fast until morning?
I tweet! I’m addicted to Twitter. My cab got into an accident one night, and I tweeted about it, and when I came home, I told my husband, “My neck is killing me because of this accident!” And he said, “You got into an accident? Why didn’t you call me?” And I said, “Don’t you follow me on Twitter?”
Who do you follow on Twitter?
I follow all my ladies at The View, a ton of comedians and a lot of legal analysts and pundits. I also follow my fans. When I was creating my Luxhair Now wig line, I was listening to what my fans were saying online because I wanted to make something that the average woman could wear to work.
Which is more nutritious: print or Web?
For informational reading, it’s the Web because I just don’t have time to go through a lot of print stuff. When I travel, I’ll be more likely to have a book. I just finished A Game of Thrones. It was so good, I couldn’t stop reading!
What’s your biggest digital indulgence?
I use Siri for everything—she is amazing at keeping schedules and reminders. And my son loves Siri. He talks to her and tells her he loves her and asks her the wildest questions.
With such a bloated media universe, how do you cut out the fat?
It’s very, very hard. Sometimes my husband has to literally pull me away from the computer. So I don’t know if I’ve conquered that yet.
