Groupon Takes a Page Out of Facebook Studio

Deals platform looks to educate local merchants on its offerings

Facebook Studio, eat your heart out. Following a trend among notable digital firms like Facebook, Groupon today announced significant upgrades to GouponWorks, a resource that’s designed to show local merchants how the deals platform can work for their shops.

Groupon Works has been enhanced to involve 525 case studies and offers 72 video testimonials from a wide range of U.S. businesses. Examples include a planetarium in Buffalo, N.Y.; a repair shop in Ventura, Calif.; a hotel and spa in Portland, Ore.; a Thai restaurant in Denver; and a car services shop in Oklahoma City.

"Before, there were only a few case studies and testimonials on the site," a Groupon spokesperson said.

The Chicago-based deals seller also aims to explain products like its mobile feature Groupon Now and insights platform Groupon Merchant Center.

While Groupon Works focuses on the small fries of the business world, it mirrors Facebook Studio when it comes to promotional and how-to intentions. In April 2011, Facebook Studio launched as a destination for ad agencies to read big brand case studies as well as post samples of their own work.

And five weeks ago, Google launched Agency Edge to help marketers better understand and manage their advertising efforts on that digital giant’s platform.
