Facebook’s mobile business topped $1 billion in revenue last quarter (its Q4) and accounted for more than 50 percent of the social network’s ad dollars for the first time.

The company truly is more mobile than desktop based at this point after showing off earnings today that are primarily derived from ads on smartphones and the like. A year ago, mobile advertising represented less than 25 percent of Facebook’s ad revenue. Last quarter it was 53 percent.

Facebook made $1.24 billion on mobile ads in the fourth quarter 2013, and in the same quarter in 2012 mobile revenue was $305 million.

Total revenue in the fourth quarter was up 63 percent last quarter to $2.59 billion, with profits of $523 million. For the year, revenue hit $7.87 billion with profits of $1.5 billion.

Total users have topped 1.2 billion, with 297 million people accessing the network monthly solely on mobile.
