ESPN, Nintendo to Serve Seattle Mariners Fans

ESPN has partnered with Nintendo to deliver content to fans attending Seattle Mariners games—as long as those fans bring along a Nintendo DS handheld device to the game.

The network will deliver localized sports news and highlights, along with fantasy content and even games, to fans who attend Mariners games at Safeco Field in Seattle this season, starting with the first home game, which is scheduled for Tuesday, April 14.

The ESPN pact enhances the Nintendo Fan Network, launched in 2007 by Mariners’ majority-owner Nintendo as a means to deliver information via an in-stadium Wi-Fi Network to to fans using their portable Nintendo gaming devices--even allowing them to order concessions..

For ESPN, the Nintendo DS, and the recently launched Nintendo DSi, is just yet another platform for the network to distribute content.

“Our collaboration with the Nintendo Fan Network is a direct extension of the ESPN mission to enliven the sports experience, no matter how or where fans are consuming sports,” said John Zehr, ESPN’s senior vp, digital media production and product development.
