Demand Media Could Be Worth $1.3 Billion

Soon, Wall Street will determine just how many millions of dollars all those $15 freelance articles are really worth: Demand Media is set to go public next week.

According to AllThingsD.com, Demand should wrap up its investor road show by late next week, at which point it will launch its initial public offering, with initial shares priced at $14 to $16.

That could make Demand worth as much as $1.3 billion, per AllThingsD.com. That’s a lot of cash for a company best known for churning out thousands of general interest and how-to articles produced by freelancers.

Yet despite journalism circles' lukewarm response to Demand’s content, the company’s model has generally been embraced by advertisers.
