Cory Booker Joins Senate Commerce Committee

New Jersey's new senator has more than 1 million Twitter followers

Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) will sit on the Senate Commerce Committee. Booker, the former mayor of Newark and a rising star in his party, was sworn in Thursday morning by Vice President Joe Biden.

Booker, 44, replaces Sen. Jeff Chiesa, the Republican who was appointed by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie following the death of Sen. Frank Lautenberg. Booker handily won a Oct. 16 special election and will serve out Lautenberg's term, which ends in 2014.
