The Gilt website has been a place where fashion meets technology since the site’s launch in 2007. Now, with the help of Google Chrome and Samsung, the chic bargain site is taking the fashion-tech nexus to a new level.
Gilt is the first U.S. retailer to sell the recently released Chromebook. The Samsung Series 5 Chromebooks went on sale yesterday for $499.99 at Gilt, with the added bonus of a custom Rickshaw carrying case.
The sale of the Chromebook on Gilt represents an even further deviation from the site’s original sales model. What started out as an invitation-only shopping destination for bargain-obsessed lovers of couture has morphed into a multi-pronged enterprise. Offers span the luxury market. Most recently, this includes the launch of Gilt Taste, the place for those epicureans who must have that $550 Spanish dry-cured ham.
