Great news, soap opera fans: the long-running ABC series All My Children and One Life to Live, whose cancellations were announced in April, are getting one more life to live—online.
ABC has sold the rights to the two soaps as part of a deal with TV, film, and music company Prospect Park, according to the New York Post. Founded in 2008, Prospect Park is run by executives Rich Frank, a former Disney Studios boss, and Jeff Kwatinetz—both executive producers of USA’s Royal Pains.
Sources said that after the series finish their run on ABC in September, they’ll pick up where they left off on a new (and still unnamed) TV-focused online network. Prospect Park will take charge of the existing casts, crews, and talent (including Susan Lucci!) and continue the series’ story lines.
Prospect Park is said to be finalizing its current round of funding for the online network in the next month to 45 days. Other unnamed backers are involved, said the Post. The ABC soaps are expected to be eventually joined by other “brand-name TV shows” on the new website.
