AOL Video President Ran Harnevo Is Leaving the Company

Ran Harnevo, the man widely considered to be the force behind AOL's massive video growth, announced on Tuesday that he is leaving the company to go back to what he loves: "being an entrepreneur, inventing shit." According to re/code, AOL's video revenue was only about $10 million or more in 2010 when Harnevo joined the company. Today, it adds up to hundreds of millions. Just this past April at the Digital Content NewFront, AOL unveiled 16 new star-studded web series, featuring the likes of James Franco and Steve Buscemi. They were considered to have one of the best slates for the upcoming year. Taking over from Harnevo is former Viacom president Dermot McCormack, who will be joining as president of AOL Video and AOL Studios. McCormack was at Viacom for almost six years, most recently serving as president of Viacom Music & Logo's Connected Content Group. "Dermot is a game changing talent with experience exactly where we need it—building audiences through engaging programming—and is the person I expect to take AOL's video efforts to the next level, building on our significant success to date and increasing the pace of our innovation and growth," said AOL CEO Tim Armstrong in a press release. Harnevo tweeted about his departure. He will remain an executive producer of Connected, AOL's first long-form original series.
