Angry Birds developer Rovio has a lot to be happy about. It has purchased Futuremark Games Studio, the gaming side of the Futuremark software company—and just three days after the release of the new zero-gravity Angry Birds Space on March 22, the game was downloaded 10 million times, topping the sales charts on Apple platforms in 104 countries.
Futuremark is known for its zero-gravity games, which include Unstoppable Gorg, Hungribles and Shattered Horizon. The terms of the deal with the company, based in Finland, were not disclosed.
Rovio, known mainly for its staple game, has also been successful in selling Angry Birds merchandise and toys. In the future, the company may expand its entertainment options beyond the gaming sphere after an influx of funding earlier this month from two venture capital firms.
Rovio also purchased Kombo Animation Studio last summer, making the Futuremark deal the company’s second acquisition in the last year.
