Alcohol Delivery Startup Expands to Denver’s Boozy Crowd

Facebook app installs target Mile High City

Alcohol-delivery app Drizly is launching in Denver today, making it easier for people to get booze to their doorstep within one hour. The app is also available in the New York, Chicago, Boston and Los Angeles areas.

The Denver expansion is part of Drizly’s plan to expand nationally. "There are two main factors that we consider when expanding to a new city: The quality of retail partner network and potential consumer adoption and demand. Denver fit both of these, hands down," said Nick Rellas, co-founder and CEO of Drizly.

Drizly is a mobile app for iPhone and Android devices that lets users place alcohol orders that are then delivered within 20 to 40 minutes. Patrons in Denver, Chicago, Boston and Los Angeles are charged a $5 fee while New York orders are free.

The Boston-based startup works with retailers to stock the orders and receive all of the transactions. Drizly then charges the stores a monthly license fee. Drizly is partnering with Denver’s Argonaut Wine and Liquor to fuel orders, which claims to sell 3,000 different types of liquor, beer and wine.

On Friday, the company began running ads targeting the Denver market to drive app downloads. Drizly also posted to its Twitter and Facebook accounts this morning to announce the expansion.

Drizly is only one of a growing number of home delivery apps that are looking to take on bigger players in the space like eBay Now and Google Shopping. Other apps betting on the home delivery market include WunWun, Minibar and Instacart.
